Denominational Status

Earlston Primary School is a non-denominational and co-educational school.

School Roll
Our current school roll is 160 pupils, including those in the Nursery.

House Structure
All children belong to one of our three school houses — Tweed, Teviot, or Leader.  Where possible, children join the same house as their siblings to strengthen family connections across the school.

School in Context
Earlston Primary School first opened its doors in 1876. The original building was joined to Earlston High School until the High School moved to a new site in 2009, allowing the Primary and Nursery to expand into the repurposed spaces.

In January 2025, we proudly moved into our brand new, purpose-built facility, which includes:
  • A public library
  • Nursery
  • Eight classrooms
  • Dedicated dining hall
  • PE hall
  • Breakout spaces for flexible learning

Our spacious outdoor environment consists of a combination of tarmac and grassed areas and features a 90-metre Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), pavilion, and school garden, providing excellent opportunities for outdoor learning and play.

Local Community
Earlston Primary School enjoys strong and positive links with our wider community.
We value parents and carers as active partners in school improvement and provide many opportunities throughout the year for families to come in and celebrate learning together.

We also have close partnerships with Earlston High School and the other associated primaries, ensuring smooth transitions and shared learning opportunities. In addition, our collaboration with partner agencies helps us meet the individual needs of every child.

Security
To ensure the safety of all, visitors must enter through the main entrance and report to the School Office, where they will be asked to sign the visitors’ book.

Parents or designated adults should always bring and collect Nursery children directly to and from the Nursery classroom.

Please ensure that the school has accurate and up-to-date contact details for your child so we can reach you quickly in the event of an emergency.
Playground Supervision
An adult presence is provided in the playground from 8:40am and during all break times.

Children staying for school meals or packed lunches must remain on school grounds during lunchtime.

In cases of inclement weather, children are supervised indoors before school, at morning interval, and at lunchtime.

School Uniform and Dress Code
We encourage all pupils to wear the school uniform, which promotes pride in belonging to Earlston Primary and supports a positive attitude to learning.

Uniform
  • Dark coloured school trousers or skirt
  • White shirt, polo shirt, or blouse
  • Navy blue sweater or cardigan
  • Black shoes
  • Blue and white checked summer dress
Picture
Primary 7 Uniform
  • As above, with a royal blue sweater or cardigan
(This helps distinguish P7 pupils as leaders and representatives of the school.)
  • As a joint gift from Earlston Primary School and our Parent Council, our Primary 7s are presented with Leavers Hoodies for them to wear during their final term at Earlston Primary School.

PE Kit
  • Black or navy shorts
  • White polo shirt or T-shirt
  • Black/white sandshoes or indoor trainers

Uniform items can be ordered through the
Border Embroideries website and will feature the embroidered school badge.

Please label all items of clothing and personal belongings with your child’s name or initials, as many items are identical.
