We are a Rights Respecting School
|
At Earlston Primary, we are proud to be a UNICEF UK Rights Respecting School. This initiative is founded on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), which ensures that every child is treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. Being a Rights Respecting School means that children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos, curriculum, and daily practice.
In 2025, we were delighted to achieve the Silver: Rights Aware Award, recognising that the values of respect, equality, and inclusion are deeply embedded across our school community. We are now well on our way to achieving the Gold Award, building on this strong foundation to ensure that children’s rights are fully realised and consistently lived throughout all aspects of school life. |
In practice, this means that staff model the language and values of rights in every interaction, helping children to understand not only their own rights but also their responsibilities towards others. Pupils have a genuine voice in school decisions — through class charters, pupil groups, and leadership opportunities — empowering them to contribute meaningfully to school improvement.
You’ll see the impact of our Rights Respecting approach in every part of our school: in how children treat one another, in how they engage in learning, and in how they take pride in making positive contributions to their community and the wider world. Assemblies, classroom discussions, and projects often focus on global citizenship, fairness, and empathy, helping our pupils to grow as kind, confident, and responsible individuals.
At Earlston, being a Rights Respecting School is more than an award — it’s a living part of who we are and a daily reminder of our shared vision to help every child be the Best Version of Themselves.
